Make room for the place
Riverfront skylines. Garden paths.
When to go
Spring and autumn are useful starting points. Allow for rain, summer heat and possible weather disruption. Public holidays and major exhibitions can affect hotel availability.

Look around People’s Square, Jing’an or a central metro station. Staying near a useful line often matters more than having a skyline view.
Getting there & getting around
Pudong (PVG) and Hongqiao (SHA) are different airports. Hongqiao also has a major railway station. Read the full name on every booking and allow time to cross the city.
What to book ahead
Choose a specific museum branch or observation deck before booking. Check opening days and passport booking options. Yuyuan Garden, the surrounding shopping area and special evening events can have different tickets.
A taste of the place
Try xiaolongbao soup dumplings and shengjian pan-fried buns. Let hot soup cool before biting; ask about pork, shellfish or other fillings if needed.
A suggested pace
Your days in Shanghai
An original suggested itinerary. Reorder days around reservations, weather and your arrival time.
Day 1 · Settle in, then the river
After check-in, walk a manageable section of the Bund. If you arrive early, add a neighborhood café stop rather than another ticketed attraction.
Day 2 · A garden and a neighborhood
Visit Yuyuan Garden, then leave time for the surrounding streets. Spend the afternoon around the tree-lined streets near Wukang Road, or choose a museum if it rains.
Day 3 · Your choice of city view
Choose one Pudong observation deck or a Shanghai Museum branch. With an extra full day, consider Suzhou as a separate excursion after checking trains and garden reservations.
