Make room for the place
Pandas, teahouses and time to linger.
When to go
Consider spring or autumn and keep a rain plan. In warm weather, choose a morning panda visit if available, while remembering that animal activity and visibility are never guaranteed.
Check holidays before choosing dates →A starting point for your stay
Search around a central metro stop near Tianfu Square or Chunxi Road. A quiet room is useful if you plan an early start for the panda base.
Getting there & getting around
Check whether your flight uses Tianfu (TFU) or Shuangliu (CTU); transfers differ considerably. Rail bookings also need the full station name. Budget a separate journey to the panda base.
What to book ahead
The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding uses real-name reservations. Follow its official ticket page and bring your original booking ID. Check the entry gate and time slot; Panda Valley is a separate destination.
A taste of the place
Try Sichuan dishes at the spice level you enjoy. Ask for less chili and less Sichuan pepper separately, and explain allergies in writing. A mild hotpot broth may still contain allergens.

Your days in Chengdu
An original suggested itinerary. Reorder days around reservations, weather and your arrival time.
Day 1 · A slower arrival
Check in, walk around People’s Park and pause at a teahouse. Save the evening for a Sichuan meal without an early-morning connection the next day.
Day 2 · Panda morning, free afternoon
Use your reserved panda-base slot and allow time for the grounds. Afterwards, return to the city for lunch and an unhurried neighborhood walk.
Day 3 · Culture and cooking
Choose the Wuhou Shrine area or a cooking experience after checking availability. For Leshan, add a separate full day rather than squeezing a distant excursion into departure day.
