One phrase, three formats
| Format | Result |
|---|---|
| Tone marks | nǐ hǎo,shì jiè! |
| Tone numbers | ni3 hao3,shi4 jie4! |
| No tones | ni hao,shi jie! |
Pinyin spells Mandarin sounds. It does not translate the meaning into English.
How are polyphonic characters handled?
Common words help select a reading: 重庆 uses chóng qìng, while 重要 uses zhòng yào. Names, rare words and ambiguous sentences can still need correction. Select an underlined character to choose a listed alternative. Editing the source text resets these choices.
Does traditional Chinese work too?
Yes. Simplified and traditional text use the same Mandarin pinyin system. The original characters are kept in the reading view. Regional pronunciations and names may differ, so check the result when the reading matters.
What do the tone numbers mean?
Numbers 1–4 indicate the four tones; 0 marks the neutral tone. For example, 你好吗 becomes ni3 hao3 ma0. The letter ü is kept as ü, as in 女 → nü3.
Does the result include tone sandhi?
The tool shows written syllable tones: 你好 is nǐ hǎo, 一 is yī and 不 is bù. It does not apply spoken third-tone changes or the contextual tone changes of 一 and 不. Syllables are separated for study, not joined into a word-by-word spelling guide.
What happens to punctuation or unknown characters?
Line breaks, punctuation, English, numbers and emoji stay in the result. A character missing from the dictionary stays unchanged, with a notice when unconverted Han characters are found.
